Queensland Pathways State College (QPSC) is a state high school that specifically supports students that have disengaged from mainstream schools in grades 10 to 12 (students must be a minimum of 15 years of age).
We cater for a diverse range of student needs including young people who have:
- mental health concerns
- difficult home lives
- homelessness
- poverty
- social isolation
- medical conditions
- behaviour
- exclusions or cancellations from mainstream schooling
- previous enrolments in multiple schools
- low literacy/numeracy skills
- years out of schooling.
Our primary
focus is to assist in the development of student’s literacy and numeracy skills
and address the barriers that prevent them from engaging in a mainstream school. QPSC focuses on essential subjects such as literacy, numeracy and workplace skills, while also teaching students how to grow their sense of self through an evidence-based wellbeing program called SWEL (Social skills, Work skills, Emotional skills, and Life skills).
QPSC's condensed senior transitions program maintains high expectations for student learning by outlining a QCE pathway for each student, leading to employment or further education at TAFE or university. Although an ATAR pathway is not available, students can still pursue this option through preparatory tertiary education providers.
Students enrol with QPSC for approximately 12 months and are then supported to transition to work or further study.
